Collaboration with Viscount Nelson Education Network CIC
We are proud to announce that we will be working in collaboration with Viscount Nelson Education Network CIC (VNET), the new home of Better 2 Best (B2B), to establish an Assessment Working Group in South East England for the academic year 2017-18.
VNET is a non-profit Community Interest Company based in East Anglia which aims to develop a strong network of education establishments to support one another. VNET already co-ordinates a network of high quality personnel and partners, and is responsive to the needs of schools, trusts, children and young people. Angel Solutions is delighted to be listed as a VNET partner and hope that our continued partnership will help to provide cost effective support to VNET schools with assessment and leadership through Balance and Perspective.
In Focus: VNET Assessment Working Group
The working group will be supported by an Assessment SLE from IGNITE Teaching School Alliance in Cheshire, who will help to build teaching and learning communities with teaching staff from the VNET schools involved. The main aim of the Assessment Working Party will be to ensure that all pupils are fully supported in their learning journeys throughout their primary education by promoting varied assessment methods, framed by the teachers’ use of Balance.
Balance will act as the vehicle through which assessment information will be collated. A variety of classroom techniques will be discussed and implemented to help ‘redress the balance’ in teacher workload. Using Balance, we will help all teaching staff (TAs included) to highlight early-on where there are gaps in learning, what are the most appropriate next steps for an individual pupil, and to produce analysis for pupil progress meetings, parent consultation and school leadership.
Our key principles, shared by VNET, are that Assessment should be:
- Diagnostic – supporting targeted intervention
- Honest – our ultimate accountability lies with the pupils
- Varied – supporting different learning styles and to ensure all stakeholders have a ‘growth mindset’
- Formative – concentrating on day-to-day assessment which is essential to next-steps planning
VNET are continually establishing a community of schools right across the South East, so if you are interested in finding out more about becoming part of VNET, please visit viscountnelson.net/join-us/. Not only will VNET membership give you access to take part in the Assessment Working Group at a discounted rate, but you will be connected with a host of accredited and recommended partners.
